The Pont d'Arc

The Pont d’Arc is a spectacular natural arch standing majestically more than 50 metres above the Ardèche River thatcarved it.

Its striking beauty and impressive size make it truly a natural masterpiece, offering an unforgettable view over the surrounding gorges.

To gaze at this arch is to feel humbled by the power and elegance of the river that sculpted it over thousands of years.

Practical tip: save time and effort by parking near the tourist office and taking the shuttle bus directly to the Pont d’Arc.

Gorges de l’Ardèche

The Ardèche Gorges are a true natural gem, shaped by the Ardèche River as it flows between over 30 km of stunning limestone cliffs.

These gorges offer a spectacular panorama, alternating between sheer cliffs, winding narrows and crystal-clear waters to create a breathtaking landscape.

Chauvet Cave

This historical decorated cave is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The walls of the cave display remarkably ancient prehistoric paintings dating back around 36,000 years, to the Aurignacian period.

There are nearly 1,000 drawings depicting around 14 animal species, including mammoths, woolly rhinoceroses and cave lions.

The archaeological site also contains multiple bones, of the cave bear in particular, with nearly 200 skulls and 4,000 bones found to date.

The chambers are geologically stunning: some reach heights of up to 17 metres and contain magnificent rock formations (curtains, rimstone pools, columns, etc.).

To protect this fragile treasure, the cave is closed to the public. Instead, visitors can see a highly accurate replica built near Vallon-Pont-d’Arc: the Chauvet 2 Cave. The tour takes you on a voyage back in time, to discover the paintings and understand the Palaeolithic context.

In the replica park, you’ll also find the Aurignacian Gallery with its interactive exhibitions and activities that bring to life the experiences of those prehistoric artists.

This area is also adapted to beginners who can practice their skills by trying to catch white fish.

The Ardèche is a great river for fishing because all the waters of the Cévennes Ardéchoises and some of the waters from the upper Loire river flow into it.
